High School

A weekly rhythm is important for high school students to keep Jesus in the center of their lives. Our three weekly connection points are designed to help our students, wherever they are at with their faith, to live a life where they worship, grow, and serve as followers of Jesus Christ.

    Mosaic Community

    Wednesdays | September 11–May 7 2023 | 7:00–8:30 p.m. | Oak Brook | Atrium

Mosaic provides an opportunity for our committed students to develop and grow as student leaders. Mosaic is a community broken into "tiles" that are groups of students and adult volunteers who desire to serve out of how they are wired (band, serving, creative arts, up front leadership, etc.).

Our weekly gatherings are divided into two parts:

    1. Mosaic Community | 7:00‐7:45 p.m.
Students gather for a spiritual exercise, leadership training, and collaboration in the design, development, and ownership of our ministry.
    2. Tile Time | 7:45-8:30 p.m.
This is where students collaborate within the specific tasks connected to their tile to design to "own" various parts of ministry (band rehearsal, designing service opportunities, etc.) Each tile has an adult volunteer leader who is passionate about the "tile" in which they lead, creating a multi‐generational approach to leadership development.

    Confirmation
    Freshman Entry Point
    September 11–December 11 | 7:00–8:45 p.m.

    Confirmation Journey 2022–2023

    Sundays, September 11–December 11 | 7:00-8:45 p.m.

Confirmation is an annual experience for our students in grade 9 where they have an opportunity to deepen and proclaim their Christian faith. Confirmation is not mandatory, and students have the freedom in this program to explore the basics of the Christian faith, understand the theological traditions of their faith, and decide if they want to publicly proclaim that faith.

We believe that students learn best through personal engagement with mentors and small groups, so this program is structured to provide a small group of their peers who are guided by an adult mentor. Mentor groups will meet weekly in connection with our larger High School community (Koinonia) and will process the Confirmation curriculum together with their group. Confirmation mentors are parents and other adults who love young people and are coached and trained to have conversations about life and faith with adolescents.

Parent support and investment in Confirmation is essential and we invite every family to encourage their student in this experience. For parents to be equipped to engage with their Confirmand, there is a mandatory parent meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18. Students will begin their Confirmation experience that same time in a separate meeting.

We know that family life is hectic and that wonderful activities like music, theater, dance, and sports fill our schedules. The opportunity to deepen and confirm our faith is significant and we ask that families make every effort to attend Confirmation meetings and the Fall Retreat. Life happens so there is some flexibility, but we ask that students not miss more than two meetings throughout the Confirmation experience.

    Confirmation Schedule (10 sessions)

    Sundays September 11 (Koinonia Kickoff), 18, 25

    Sundays October 2, 9, 16, 23

    Fall Retreat 2022

October 28–30 | Phantom Ranch Bible Camp

    Cost $250

Fall Retreat is a weekend away at Phantom Ranch that offers students time to rest and recalibrate amid their hectic school and extra-curricular schedules. This weekend is often celebrated as the highlight of our students’ years as they can move away from the many distractions of their weekly lives and fully focus on their friendships in this community and space to worship and connect with God.

Students meet at the Oak Brook campus in the early evening on October 28 and take coach buses up to Phantom Ranch Bible Camp in Mukwonago, WI. After enjoying a weekend of fun and friendship as well as worship and teaching, they will return to the Oak Brook location in the afternoon of October 30. The cost of the retreat is $250 (financial assistance is available if needed). This weekend is a ‘can't miss’ for any high school student!

    Contemporary or Classic Worship
    Worship With Us!

    Sundays 10:45 a.m. (year round)

Worshipping as a part of a larger community is significant for the spiritual developlment of an adolescent. Research suggests that high school students who were regularly part of an ongoing worshipping community were more likely to maintain their faith beyond high school. At Christ Church, we are eager to help our students develop not only in their peer communities, but as part of the wider church. We encourage students to sit with their families for worship or, feel free to join other students who sit together. Our staff and volunteers attend worship and are eager to help studnets connect with one another or to sit with a student who may not be attending with their family. If you have any questions about Sunday morning worship, please contatc us and we will help you connect (jjohnson@christchurch.us).
