Welcome to the Confirmation Journey!

Over the next weeks, these daily devotions will help us:

  1. understand the core pieces of the Christian faith
  2. understand our role as Christ–followers
  3. confirm this faith as our own

Just like any journey, it might not always be a smooth road. There may be as many questions, doubts, and confusions as there are excitements, affirmations, and clarity along the way. That is why community is so important in faith. You will be grouped with a few other confirmation students and an adult mentor to check in every other week to help answer questions and talk about the things that you are learning as you move through this journey.

Each daily devotion will be about 15–30 minutes. The only things you’ll need are a device to access this page, a Bible (or Bible app), a journal/notebook, and a pen/pencil. This page will guide you through each day of the coming weeks with videos, prayers, Scripture readings and reflection questions to help navigate the way.

Let's begin the journey!

Week One

    Day One

PRAY: Before jumping into the devotional today, spend a few moments quieting your mind and heart, and ask God to help you have the eyes to see Him and ears to hear Him today.

READ: In your Bible or below, read Proverbs 3:5–8 a few times – even read it out loud to yourself.

    Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.

WRITE: In your journal, respond to these questions:

    1. What words, phrases, or ideas stand out to you from the passage?
    2. What do you think God might be trying to say to you through the passage?

ENGAGE: Take a couple of minutes to watch the intro video for the confirmation program.

WRITE: In your journal, respond to these questions:

    1. How might our faith be like a journey?
    2. Describe your journey of faith. Where are you on your journey?

PRAY: Close your time with prayer, asking God to help you trust in Him with all your heart and to submit to Him in all your ways.

    Day Two

PRAY: Open a conversation with Jesus. Share how you are feeling and what you are thinking with Him.

WRITE: In your journal, respond to these prompts:

    1. Write down everything you know about Jesus.
    2. What role does Jesus play in your life?

READ: In your Bible, or below, read John 3:16–21.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

WRITE: In your journal, respond to these prompts.

    1. What part(s) of that passage sticks out to you most? Why?
    2. What do you think that passage is saying about Jesus (the Son)?
    3. If we believe that passage to be true, how might that affect how we think about Jesus and interact with Him?
    4. What questions do you have about Jesus?

PRAY: Close your time by continuing your conversation with Jesus. Ask Him to reveal himself to you more and more each day as you move through this confirmation journey!

    Day Three

PRAY: Open your time with prayer, praising God for all the ways that He has provided for us.

READ: In your Bible, or below, read through Psalm 95:1–6.

    Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
Let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song.
For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to Him.
The sea is His, for He made it, and His hands formed the dry land.
Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

WRITE: In your journal, respond to these questions:

    1. How would you describe worship? What does it mean to worship God?
    2. Worship can be going to a church service, but it can also be more than that. What might it look like to live a life of worship?
    3. Make a list of aspects of faith that you would label as ”worship”.
    4. What is the purpose of worship?

ENGAGE: Watch the ”What is Worship” video for a quick overview of what biblical worship is.

WRITE: In your journal, respond to this question:

    1. What may need to change in your life if you were to live into that definition of worship?

PRAY: Close your time in prayer, asking God for a heart of worship!

    Day Four

PRAY: Spend a few moments in “Centering Prayer”, silencing your heart and mind and being attentive to God's presence with you!

WRITE: In your journal, respond to these prompts:

    1. What is spiritual growth? Make a list of all the aspects of faith that could be described as Growth!
    2. Just like a journey, growth in faith can be like taking the next steps down the path. Looking back over your life, where have you seen growth in your own life?

READ: In your Bible, or below, read Psalm 119:1 and 105.

    1. Blessed are those whose ways are blameless,
who walk according to the law of the Lord.
Blessed are those who keep his statutes
and seek him with all their heart—
    they do no wrong
    but follow his ways.

    105. Your word is a lamp for my feet,
    a light on my path.

WRITE: In your journal, respond to these prompts:

    1. What comforts you from those verses? What questions do you have about them?
    2. What does the writer mean by saying “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path?”
    3. What would it look like for God's Word, the Bible, to be a lamp for your feet and a light for your path?

PRAY: Spiritual growth is often based on spiritual practices and disciplines like prayer. Try out a Prayer of Examen to close your devotional time:

    1. Quiet your heart and your mind, and think back over your day and your week.
    2. Where did you feel near to God today/this week? Where did you feel distant? Share that with God.
    3. What were your emotions like throughout the day's/week's events? Share that with God.
    4. Close your prayer by asking Jesus to open your heart more to His presence tomorrow.

    Day Five & Six

PRAY: Open your time with God this morning by praying that He would give you eyes to see those in need this week.

WRITE: In your journal, respond to this prompt:

    1. What does it mean to serve others?

READ: In your Bible, or below, read through Matthew 25:34–40 a few times. Even read it out loud once.

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

WRITE: In your journal, respond to these prompts:

    1. When was a time that someone served you? What was that like for you?
    2. As followers of Jesus, why is serving others so important?

REFLECT: Take a moment to think back over the devotions this week. In your journal, respond to these prompts:

    1. What was something new you learned or thought about this week?
    2. What questions do you have after this week?
    3. How might you look at your faith differently this week?

PRAY: Close your time in prayer, asking God to empower you to show His love to all those around you this week.
