Youth Mental Health First Aid equips adults with practical tools to recognize and respond to mental health and substance use challenges in young people ages 12–18. This course will help parents, caregivers, educators and other caring adults better understand what youth may be experiencing, respond in times of crisis and connect them with appropriate support.
This course covers:
- Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in this age group, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD)
- Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges
- How to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis
- How to connect the youth with help
- Expanded content on trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying
Psychologists, Counselors/Clinical Counselors, Illinois Educators/School Psychologists, MFTs, LPCCs and LCSWs: This program, when attended in its entirety, is available for 6.5 continuing education credits.
