“Hidden Figures” Sermon Series

July 6-28 | Oak Brook and Butterfield (formerly Downers Grove)

Throughout time there have been groups of people who have gone unseen and unnoticed. Human history includes the journey of millions who faced significant challenges to the use of their gifts and the voice God gave them. Despite a lack of positional authority, and in the face of difficult circumstances, they found ways to use their influence to do great things in this world.

The Bible is full of stories about such people who took considerable risks to lead boldly in their time. This series will focus on how some of these biblical figures used their influence to advance God’s purposes. We will also look at who the “Hidden Figures” might be in our lives today and what they can teach us about how to lead with wisdom, strength and God's bold vision for justice and mercy in our world.

Special Sermon Series Connections:
The Coffee Sleeve Project | July | Oak Brook

The Coffee Sleeve Project is a collaborative art installation that comes to us out of small groups. In these communal gatherings, the conversations center on how God uses the influence of women and men to bring about God’s good purposes in our world. Why a coffee sleeve? There is perhaps no icon more common to everyday community and conversation than a coffee cup. Beginning in July, different life experiences and perspectives will be displayed on coffee sleeves, encouraging our congregation to honor and engage with one another’s stories. Contact SKoklys@christchurch.us if you would like to get plugged into a group.
