Phil & Jill Aspegren | Casa Viva | Costa Rica

Phil & Jill Aspegren both work on staff with Casa Viva, an organization aimed at partnering local governments, churches, and families to support children in need of care. Casa Viva believes children need small, secure, and specific solutions which play out best in individually selected and trained family homes.

Casa Viva has an impact beyond its base in Costa Rica. By offering trainings and consulting on sustainability for other organizations, Casa Viva influences work across Latin America and beyond.

Casa Viva's Model

Casa Viva’s care model involves 4 basic steps:

  1. Start with a local church that recruits and supports families and volunteers
  2. Local families are trained and supported by Casa Viva’s professional staff to open their homes and hearts to children
  3. Partner with the local government to identify children in need of care, and to pursue their best long-term alternatives
  4. Connect children with local families who are focused on attachment, a stable home environment, and the particular needs of each child.
